Spring Bike Service in Perth: Get Your Bike Summer-Ready

Winter grime, flat tyres and a chain that sounds like a coffee grinder? Here's what a spring service fixes, what to check yourself, and how to get your bike summer-ready without leaving home.

Why spring is the right time for a service

Bikes don't like sitting still. Over winter, a few things quietly go wrong:

  • Tyres lose pressure and rubber perishes. A tyre left flat for months can crack along the sidewall.
  • Chains dry out and rust. Coastal suburbs like Fremantle, Cottesloe and Mosman Park get salt air, and a chain left untouched over winter shows it fast.
  • Brake pads and cables stiffen. Hydraulic brakes can lose feel, and cable brakes get sticky.
  • Gears drift out of adjustment. That clicking or skipping you hear on the first ride back is usually cable stretch or a bent hanger.

Fixing these before summer means you're not stuck with a skipping chain halfway along the Freo foreshore on a 38-degree day.

Quick checks you can do yourself

  1. Squeeze the brakes. The levers shouldn't touch the handlebar. If they do, the pads or cables need attention.
  2. Spin the wheels. They should run straight without rubbing on the brake pads or frame.
  3. Look at the chain. Orange rust or a black, gritty build-up means it needs cleaning and lube at minimum, and possibly replacing.
  4. Pump the tyres and check them the next day. If they're soft again, you have a slow puncture or a perished tube.
  5. Shift through every gear. Any skipping, clunking or gears that won't engage need adjusting.

If any of these fail, it's time for a service.

What our Standard Service includes

Our Standard Service ($149) is a full refresh, done at your home or workplace:

  • Full drivetrain clean and lube: chain, cassette, chainrings and derailleurs
  • Gear indexing and adjustment
  • Brake inspection and adjustment, with pad check
  • Wheel truing and spoke tension check
  • Tyre and tube inspection, inflated to the right pressure
  • Bolt torque and safety check across the whole bike

If we find anything worn out, like a stretched chain or worn brake pads, you get a clear quote before any extra work. No surprises on the bill.

Got an e-bike?

E-bikes need everything above plus a check of the motor, battery, wiring and firmware. They're also heavier and harder on chains and brake pads, so a spring service matters even more. See our E-Bike Service ($179), or read our guide on e-bike error codes.

Servicing the whole family's bikes?

If the kids' bikes are also sitting in the shed with flat tyres, our Family Bike Package covers two adult and two kids' bikes in one visit. One booking, one trip, everyone is riding by the weekend.

Why book a mobile service?

No loading the bike into the car, no dropping it at a shop and waiting a week. We come to you across Fremantle, Bicton, Beaconsfield, Cottesloe, Subiaco, Leederville, Mount Lawley, Nedlands and surrounding suburbs, and most services are done on the spot in about an hour.

Cloud Cycles is run by Jo, a Cytech-certified mechanic with over 15 years on the tools and 125+ five-star Google reviews from Perth riders.

Spring is our busiest time of year, so book early to get the day you want. Book your spring service here.
